The process of making good scissor steel is the result of an elaborate recipe in which several types of elements are combined in a well-balanced mixture that gives you just the right cutting tool. CARBON is the principal hardener in steel. The more carbon that is added, the harder it gets. Carbon content should be between .95 and 1.2% of the finished steel. A steel that is too hard will not perform well for slide or dry cutting. MOLYBDENUM adds toughness and increases corrosion resistance to chemicals that can cause pitting and dulling. MANGANESE contributes to the tensile strength of the blade, so that it will retain its edge longer. CHROMIUM protects against corrosion and also adds heat resistance so that the steel will maintain its desired properties during forging and finishing. VANADIUM adds toughness and fatigue resistance so that the scissor will maintain its set and balance. COBALT and TITANIUM are also added to some steels to increase hardness and decrease weight, and adding these alloys will result in the finest scissor steel for top quality scissors. When manufacturing shears it is this metal that is the most expensive aspect and our scissors have over 30% more of this unique formulation of steel than the majority of our competitors allowing the hair-cutting professional to experience the way shears are suppose to cut hair.
Tiger Steel utilizes the perfect combination of the very best Japanese Steel known to man.
Cobalt steel is an industry standard and the addition of the cobalt makes the blade stronger and sharper but it also makes the blade more rigid from its enhancement. At Tiger Steel we have found that perfect blend of steel that contains various amounts of the following: Chromium, Vanadium, Molybdenum and Cobalt. We make our product with two types of specialized custom steel that we designed specifically for our scissors in Japan. One is our custom blend of Cobolt Steel and the other is a customized blend of VG-10 Steel. The highest quality chef's knives are usually made of VG-10. VG-10 is considered a "super steel", because it is designed to maintain sharpness and durability without becoming brittle, a major fault normally associated with exceptionally hard steel. This quality is ideal when extreme sharpness is desired, as most other steels will not take or keep an edge like VG-10. We use the Vanadium and Cobolt to reduce the weight and add more density to the metal to give less "cuticular vibration" allowing more control and stability during texturizing techniques like dry cutting and slicing. We prefer a high quality and more effective blend utilizing the benefits of japanese steel with a VG-10 rating. This higher quality not only is the best option to cut dry hair with, it is an amazingly strong steel that will hold a razor sharp edge for years which makes it just as good to cut wet hair with as well. We have taken no short cuts and have built a solid work horse that will hold its blade and give years of superior performance with our signature scissors. Our Screw hole is a ball bearing set with a smooth tension control system that allows for quick tension adjustments with no bulky screws or knobs. The ball bearing system will allow the least amount of resistance so it performs like a dream and lets the blade do all the work reducing hand fatigue giving the smallest details the highest level of attention while designing the scissors.

CAMEL BACK
our camel back allows for the fingers to land in the most ergonomic position possible while giving support and superior control. This allows for maneuverability so that your hand is able to be in the position it is most effective to enhance proper cutting positions. When building the scissor we stayed focused on how to get the most comfortable position with the most support so it was very important to incorporate a camel back on the finger side of the handle

HALF-TANG DESIGN
The ultimate in ergonomics and maneuverability comes from our custom design with the finger side of the scissor handle. this unique design allows the stylist to go "sakasama"(upside-down) with the scissor with complete control. While dry cutting or slicing techniques are used the tang fits perfectly inside of the fingers giving control and support to the stylist without any awkward or unnecessary length from the tang. Our half tang design has the same amount of surface contact with the pinky as more traditional/older scissor design with a custom tang and approximately 25% more surface contact than a removable tang that screws in on some of the older designs as well.

The scissor has been engineered to be ergonomically correct with 3 different cutting positions making it an incredibly dynamic "crane" enhancement that we have built into our scissors.
